Garment Care Guide
At Nineteen95, we believe in offering garments that are designed to last, but proper care is essential to maintaining their quality and longevity. Follow our care instructions to keep your suits and apparel looking sharp and fresh for years to come.
1. Suits and Tailored Garments
Our suits, vests, and tailored pieces require special attention to maintain their fit, fabric, and overall structure. Here’s how to care for them:
- Dry Cleaning Only: Suits and tailored garments should not be washed in a washing machine. We highly recommend sending these pieces to a professional dry cleaning service.
- In-between Wears: Use a fabric brush to remove dust and light stains. Allow your suit to rest between wears to retain its shape.
- Storage: Hang your suits on broad-shouldered hangers to preserve the natural drape of the fabric. Store them in breathable garment bags to protect from dust and moths.
2. Knitted Apparel Care
Our knitted apparel, including polo shirts and sweaters, are designed to be comfortable and durable. However, proper care is essential for extending the life of these garments.
- Hand Wash Recommended: To ensure the longevity of your knitted products, we recommend hand washing them in cold water with a mild detergent. Gently squeeze out excess water—do not wring or twist the fabric.
- Washing Machine Alternative: If hand washing is not convenient, you can machine wash the knitted garments. Place the items in a washing net and use a cold water, delicate cycle. Avoid high temperatures, which can cause shrinkage and damage.
- Drying: Never hang knitted items on a hanger as the weight of the garment can stretch and distort its shape. Instead, lay them flat on a clean, dry towel and reshape them while damp. Let them air dry naturally, away from direct sunlight or heat.
- Ironing/Steaming: We advise using a clothes steamer instead of an iron to remove creases from garments. Steaming is gentler on fabrics, especially knitted products, and helps refresh garments between uses without direct contact. If ironing is needed, use a low heat setting, particularly for delicate fabrics like linen.
- Storage: Fold your knitted garments neatly rather than hanging them. This prevents stretching and helps maintain their original shape.
4. Addressing Fraying and Pilling
Due to the natural composition of our cotton and knitted products, you may occasionally notice some fraying or pilling. This is normal and can be easily managed:
- Fabric Brush: Gently brush your knitted and cotton garments with a fabric brush to remove lint, dust, and loose fibres. Regular brushing not only keeps the fabric looking fresh but also helps prolong its life.
- Dealing with Pilling: If pilling occurs, use a fabric shaver or a sweater stone to carefully remove the pills without damaging the fabric.
5. Additional Care Tips
- Avoid Harsh Chemicals: When cleaning your garments, steer clear of harsh chemicals like bleach, which can damage fibres and fade colours.
- Storage: Store your garments in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight to prevent fading. For longer-term storage, use breathable fabric bags, especially for your tailored and knitted pieces.
